Lunenburg, a UNESCO Heritage Site, is a must-stop-and-see on any trip to Nova Scotia. It is a charming, walkable town. The town has many sights to see, from the colourful historic homes and buildings to the magnificent 19th-century churches to the tall ships, including the famous Bluenose II, docked along the waterfront. And not to forget the culinary, Lunenburg has many great accommodation options. Scroll down for a list of our recommended Lunenburg accommodations, including hotels, inns and B&Bs.
You might want to consider staying near Mahone Bay instead of Lunenburg! While we love both towns, Mahone Bay tends to be a bit warmer and less foggy than its neighbour. Lunenburg tends to get very crowded during the summer months, and parking can be a real headache. We've found that Mahone Bay tends to be a bit cooler and offers a more laid-back vibe that our guests love. Plus, staying near Mahone Bay means you're just a short drive away from exploring all three delightful seaside towns of Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Chester.

Bed and Breakfast (often abbreviated as B&B or BnB) is a small lodging establishment that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast. Traditionally bed and breakfasts are large private family homes with a limited number of guest rooms, usually between 4-11. Usually, the hosts live in the same house. Unlike hotels, B&Bs are usually operated by the owners, but they can also have a small staff.
Usually, a Bed and Breakfast offers a quite different type of experience than most hotels, motels or inns. Bed and Breakfasts provide hospitality services on a more personal level. A smaller number of guests usually allows B&B hosts to connect with their guests more personally. Though Bed and Breakfasts retain the guests' privacy, hosts often develop a closer relationship with their guests. Most Bed and Breakfasts aim to make guests feel at home during their stay. Another difference is that each room at a Bed and Breakfast is unique. Hotel rooms generally have similar layouts and multiple versions of the same room type. Most hotels typically offer breakfast, but at Bed and Breakfasts, it is usually homemade.

Frauke is an enthusiastic concierge, and self-proclaimed ambassador for Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and the Nova Scotia South Shore and gladly helps with trip itinerary planning.
Pets - The owners have a Newfoundland dog and a colour-matching Tuxedo cat on the property. Many guests ask to meet the pets, but if you are allergic or afraid of pets, let them know, and they'll ensure that you won't have to meet them. The pets are only on the owner's premises and not in the B&B part of the house. River Ridge Lodge cannot accommodate guests' pets due to some guests having allergies or fear of dogs or cats.
